Hi Guys,

Just looking for a bit of help please for anyone who has experience of iweb...

Have nearly got my web site sorted and generally I'm happy with iweb, BUT I find the gallery awful so am trying to find alternatives, either as plug ins or something to embed.

I've been all over the internet and managed to embed a slideroll gallery, but am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for something better?

Thanks DT

I have been looking for galleries all my stock life over the web, like Gallery2, Coppermine and also some paying products. Basically, after a while you get stuck when you want to tweak the code. Slideshows etc.. are much too heavy for lightweight sites that need to look decent and load fast on mobile devices too.

I'm sort of a fan of media guru Steve Rubel and in a column end last year he predicted that half of the browsing in 2012-2013 will be done via mobile devices. Sites heavy with slideshows, flash (the iPad can't even handle flash), social networking widgets and overloaded landing pages will lose visibility on mobile devices, and we have to assume that media buyers and designers are tech-savvy people that will rely more on mobile stuff than the average population.

With that in mind, I re-skinned my own site with a very fast and spacious design and with minimal gadgets and text, until it loaded fast and looked good on iPod. Here.

As to portfolios and galleries, most are much too heavy and closed. They were not designed with stock in mind but rather to show off and generate some traffic. They mostly lack a decent search engine with keyword and content oriented sarch.

End last year I started to write my own gallery script in php-mysql from scratch, with lightness, SEO and usability in mind. It can easily be integrated in any Open Source CMS like Joomla and Wordpress and it generates a rich sitemap for Google Images.

You can see the bare script here in table format: click, in lightbox format: click, and in a simple frame with random thumbs to put anywhere on your site: click.

Click on any thumb to see a slimbox/popup/new page with a sales link to Dreamstime.

It has categories (show selected categories) and models ("more of this model") and search-as-you-type keyword search. I'm still coding on the backend and on the extension of the search engine (a weak point in even paying gallery products) but as soon as it's in decent shape, I will share most of the code free for use on Dreamstime portfolios only.

The links changed in the mean time: Dreamstime Portfolio and I also added a release library and "More of this model..." if you click on the Model's avatar. The feeds for Google Images are not visible but they are there.

It will be a DT-only solution anyways.

By the way, I also wrote a password-generator over the weekend since I was annoyed with generators that don't show probabilities. Enjoy!
